How did you spend your Christmas?

How did you spend your Christmas?

On Christmas Day, an impressive 4,400 people filed their tax return.

On Christmas Eve, another 23,730 filed their tax return…

Then on Boxing Day another 11,930 decided to file their tax return, with over 1,100 filing between 4 and 5pm.

This means that over these 3 days, HMRC received over 40,000 filed self-assessment tax returns – while they were closed!

On Christmas Day itself, some 368 people filed their return between 3pm and 4pm, while many would be sitting down to enjoy their Christmas lunch.

HMRC’s director general for customer services, said: ‘People who need to file a self-assessment return and already have, can enjoy the rest of the festive period knowing they’ve got it wrapped up for another year, and can enjoy singing Auld Lang Syne knowing their tax affairs are in order…….’

As the self-assessment deadline looms, please get in touch with us here at Kennedys Accounting if you need assistance with filing yours.

Don’t forget the first penalty for late filing will be charged on 01 February 2025 and is £100, and the longer you leave it, the more fines will be added to your accounts.
