Companies House is replacing Government Gateway Access

The government’s new single sign-in service, Gov.uk One Login will need to be used by businesses to access Companies House accounts instead of the Government Gateway process.

Companies House has confirmed that from autumn 2024, it will start to move to the new system which will have to be used by companies to access all online services on the companies’ register over time.

The new system has been described as a ‘new straightforward, secure way to access government digital services’ and will require just one account, one username and one password to access all government services.

The change will be introduced in two phases this autumn, with phase one of the rollout set to complete by the end of 2024.

Phase one will see a pilot, where a small group of users of the ‘Find and update company information service’ will be invited to sign in using Gov.uk One Login.

Following the public beta trial, all users of the ‘Find and update company information service’ will have the option to use Gov.uk One Login to sign in.

Once public beta is complete, every user signing in to the ‘Find and update company information service’ will need to use Gov.uk One Login.

Companies House added that the ‘WebFiling service will move to the new login service at a later date, advising that they will give users plenty of notice before this change happens.’

The system is already being trialled for selected customers on the HMRC website, with individual taxpayers testing it out since March.

The new login service will have two factor authentication and will be rolled out across all government web services to replace Government Gateway accounts over the next three years with full implementation by mid-2027.
